Movie studies

Hey guys! Did a few studies from movie stills this weekend.. Watched some movies and hit pause when I saw something I liked and painted after it.. Trying to get a new angle on colors, composition and light.. also studies like these are really good for focusing my thinking on what I’m gonna study and not get caught up in doing my own designs.

People who know me know that I really digs me some Craig Mullins’ work and his handle on implied detail and such, so I’ve been trying to get outta rendering every bit and stay loose. No intentions of trying to end up a Mullins clone, but his approach to an image is awesome so I’m trying to learn a little bit from him.. haha..

These studies are all pretty fast though.. also in order for me not to noodle and nitpick my ass off..

’nuff talkin’; more pictures!

This last one “From Hell” is my definate favourite of the bunch.. I feel I found something there.. thinking about implied detail on this one.. and staying loose with the brush strokes.I used a brush I don’t usually touch as well, which seems to have loosened up my stuff. It’s basically shaped like a “/” with tilt sensitivity on and opacity to pressure.

Hey, ever thought of “going for a Craig Mullins” and sending your work to Craig Mullins. Maybe he would give his fedback even…! :)
