Sword concepts

Hi, guys! Had a little breather while waiting for a new contract, so I did these sword concepts. I needed a little more weapon concept art for the ol’ portfolio, and I haven’t done much of swords before. My girlfriend bought this awesome book for me with weapons, both blades and guns and everything in between, so I got super inspired, and this is what came out of it :)

Steampunk concept art

Yeah, so I had a little breather in between gigs which I figured I’d spend doing some concept art for a personal project I’ve picked up again; the steampunk meets western thing I have going.. I also had the brilliant idea of trying to install windows 7, seeing as how I was fed up with vista.. turns out 7 was pretty unstable on my system as well.. so I’ve spent the last two days fighting to get my machine to work again.. panic indeed! I ended up reverting to XP in the end.. and now my machine is totally stable, works faster than ever and I’m generally really happy about that!

Anyways.. I had time to finish up a character design I started on a while back, so here he is :)

Just wanted to drop in.. I’m aware that I’m not updating a whole lot since January, and I just wanted you all to know that I’m still here :D I’m done with a couple of contracts in a few days, and when I have a breather, I’m gonna work on a personal project.. well.. that is, I’ve picked up a personal project I was into a while ago; the steampunk western world.. The plan is some more character concepts and some environment concept art for that world when I get the time. Also I have to do something about the site.. it’s a little too…white at the moment.. I switched from the black one, hoping this would be easier on the eye, and I think it is, but I want a little sumtin’ sumtin’ to break up the big areas of white on the main page.. Fredrik at Overvåkningsbutikken helped me out with a new theme for wordpress, so I’ll probably go to him when I get that far.

I’m doing my daily studies of course, and I’ve started a new master study after the Rockwell I finished up a couple of posts back.. this time, in a moment of insanity, I started doing a master study of Jean-Leon Gérôme’s “Police Verso”.. it’s kicking my ass! But I’ll keep fighting until I kick ITS ass!

Late night fun

Hey people! Just wanted to paint something quick before bed..
Been working a couple of really long days now, so I needed to just have some fun slopping paint around :D Guess listening to Immortal Technique and Delinquent Habits while painting returns results like this :P

I’m working on a bunch of illustrations for a tabletop rpg and some creature designs for a feature length film these days! As soon as NDA’s lift, I’ll bring some stuff to show and tell! Not sure when that will be though, but I’ll be doing some personal fun stuff in between work as well and update on here!

WIP

Hey everyone! Just a little art update with a recent WIP.. nothing groundbreaking with the concept here, but I wanted to do a classic fantasy illustration, so I went for an army of badguys that have just gotten the “CHARGE!!!” order :)

I’ll post the finished thing when I get there! I gotta squeeze in personal work and studies in between gigs now, which I’m grateful for! Still have capacity for more, so if you wanna hire me, drop me a line!

In other news, I did some concept art work for Storyline Studios on a project they have going now. I can’t spill the beans yet, but I can’t wait to see the finished product! It’s gonna be awesome! I was working at their studo, and the guys over there were a blast to work with! If you guys see this; thanks for the opportunity, and I really look forward to working with you again!

Anyway.. ’nuff hollerin’ and more art! Here’s the fantasy-illo-WIP and a couple of morning studies. (Click for larger versions)

Did this one for the conceptart.org newborn competition a while back. Had a look at it now, and I still kinda like the idea, but I believe I’ll work over this one again to bring it up to par.. I’ll be sure to let you know when I get that far.

Shadowrun gallery update

I’ve updated the concept art gallery with a few pieces I did for Catalyst Game Labs for their pen ‘n paper RPG “Shadowrun”, the images are for the 20th Anniversary Edition of the book. They were used to illustrate various sections of the book, like character creation and such. Had a lot of fun doing these!

I haven’t been freelance many days, but it seems things are cookin’! I’m doing some concept art for a point ‘n click adventure these days. Can’t show any of it yet, but I’ll share when I can! Got some other very interesting things in the works as well. We’ll see how they pan out!

Workin’ hard, studying hard and generally enjoying life a lot more than a little while ago!

I have capacity for more work though, so if you guys come across anything interesting, or wanna hire me, give me a holler!

Crimson dagger study

Hey guys! I’ve recently started listening in on a livestream show with Dave Rapoza where he does Crimson Daggers sessions, which are art study sessions. I’ve done two of ‘em now, so I figured I’d post ‘em. I’ve focused on studying color, so they are a little wonky, but there ya go.. I’m learning a LOT! I’ll write some thoughts opn what I’m picking up from these at some point too!

Yesterday I did a study after a photo I found online.. I don’t know who took the picture, or I would’ve credited the photographer!

And today I did an N.C. Wyeth study, and MAN this was a lot harder! But this is the one I’ve gotten the most out of of the two in regards to learning color!

Concept art – Mechanic/Blacksmith character

So I’ve been assigned a task list at Desimal which I’m working through this last month I’m working there, there’s a bunch of lineart stuff, which I’ll probably show some of at some point, and some concept art. In this case a character concept of a blacksmith/mechanic (the most fun part of the list so far ;) ). Thought I’d show and tell a little.

Freelance concept artist

Hey guys! Long time no blog.. Had a lot going on lately. After thinking about it for quite some time, I’ve finally reached the decision to quit my current job. From January 2010 I’ll be a freelancer, so wish me luck and let me know if you have any work for me! Hehe.. I really needed a change, and I’m stoked about what the new year will bring! For all you guys out there working creative jobs (or otherwise for that matter) that feel you need a change; DO IT! It’s good to feel you’re taking a new step, turning over a new page and all that!

I’m starting to form a couple of plans on what to do next year, and there will be concept art comin’ out of it! :D (It’s all I know how to do, and all I want to do, so there ya go..hehe).. I’ll fill you in when stuff starts moving properly!

Little bit of art to go with the post.. I’ve recently rediscovered ink and markers for sketching, and I’m having a blast with it, so I figured I could show you a couple of doodles at least ;) I’m cookin’ up some digital paint stuff too, so I’ll post as soon as I have anything worth showing! For now; some steampunk-y markers..

And a little tribute do District 9 :) Or rather… a design on how a warrior class prawn might look like:
